Between the Lines with Dr. Susan O’Grady: Reflections from the practice of clinical psychology.

I’m Dr. Susan O’Grady, a clinical psychologist with decades of experience in individual and couples psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and depth psychological work. I write from the intersection of inner life and outer experience, where memory, emotion, myth, and everyday presence meet.

This space extends my work with patients, lifelong love of literature, and commitment to paying attention. I reflect on relationships, the seasons of life, uncertainty, grief, and moments of quiet revelation.

While psychotherapy provides a safe and confidential relationship to explore what hurts, my ethics require that I not talk about my clients. This invites opening up the parts of ourselves we keep shut down, secret, or tied up in knots. Bringing the hidden to light is integral to my work as a psychotherapist. Reading between the lines in what we say and what we choose to leave out has been my life’s work.

The examples in my posts are composites, and I have invented all the names and identifying information. Any resulting resemblance to people is entirely coincidental and unintentional.

I have recorded meditations I’ve shared with clients and will continue to include these, either attached to a post or under the podcast tab.

How Does This Newsletter Work?

I created this publication to offer something steady and meaningful in the midst of noise: reflections drawn from my work as a psychologist, my love of poetry and myth, and the lessons I’ve learned from patients and life.

This is not a self-help site, although I hope some of my posts are helpful. I write to make sense of things, and perhaps to offer language for what is often unspoken: grief, longing, change, the slow work of becoming.

I don’t charge for access because I continue to work a job I feel fortunate to still love, after all these years. My posts are free and not monetized. If something here resonates, I’d be grateful for your support by liking, sharing, restacking, or leaving a comment. Your engagement helps these reflections reach others who might find meaning in them.
